What Amazon checks
Amazon verifies with a one-time code by SMS or by automated call. The number is your login identifier if you register with it, or a security contact if you register with an e-mail. Either way, new devices get a code.
- Buying. No further identity check; the number, an address and a payment method are enough.
- Selling. Seller Central runs a full identity verification with documents and a video call. No phone number gets around that, and we say so plainly.
- Deliveries. Couriers may call the number on the order; a line that takes calls and voicemail is useful here.
Which line and country to pick
A landline does everything a buyer account needs, including delivery calls; take a mobile line if you also want the number for other services. Match the country to the Amazon store you use — the United States for .com, the United Kingdom for .co.uk, Germany for .de.
Step by step
- Pick the line. Choose a mobile or landline number in United States or another recommended country. The exact price, activation included, is shown before you pay.
- Pay in crypto. Send any of 8 cryptocurrencies to a one-time deposit address. The line is live about a minute after the payment confirms; no e-mail, no document.
- Enter the number in Amazon. Type the number where Amazon asks for it and request the code — by SMS, or by voice call if offered.
- Read the code in the panel. The SMS lands in your inbox with the code extracted and copyable; a voice call is answered by the voicemail and transcribed. Developers get it on a webhook.
- Lock the account. Set Authenticator app (two-step) so the account does not depend on the number alone.
If Amazon refuses the number. It is the range, not the line. Ask for a swap — free within 7 days — and you get a number from a different carrier block, with the remaining period carried over.
