What Telegram checks
Telegram sends a code by SMS to the number you enter; if it does not arrive, it offers a voice call that reads the code out. That is the whole check. It does not require the number to be from any particular country, and it does not ask for anything else about you.
- Prefix type. Telegram expects a mobile range. A fixed line usually gets no code at all rather than an error.
- Range reputation. Numbers that have hosted many accounts before are refused with a vague message. A dedicated line that nobody used before you does not have that history.
- Later checks. Almost none. Sessions last months; the number is not re-verified on a schedule. It is asked for again only when you log in on a new device, or when Telegram detects something unusual.
Telegram also sells its own anonymous +888 numbers through the Fragment marketplace. They work for Telegram only: nothing else can send a code to them, and they cannot receive calls. A real mobile line does both, and it is cheaper over a year.
Which line and country to pick
Take a mobile line. Any of our mobile countries works with Telegram; if the account will matter for years, pick a broadly accepted range such as Germany, the Netherlands or the United Kingdom. For a throwaway account a budget country is fine and costs about half.
Hide the line the day you create the account. Settings → Privacy and Security → Phone number → Nobody, then set a public username. People reach you by the username and never see the number, so it can be swapped later without anyone noticing.
Step by step
- Pick the line. Choose a mobile line in Germany or another recommended country. The exact price, activation included, is shown before you pay.
- Pay in crypto. Send any of 8 cryptocurrencies to a one-time deposit address. The line is live about a minute after the payment confirms; no e-mail, no document.
- Enter the number in Telegram. Type the number where Telegram asks for it and request the code — by SMS, or by voice call if offered.
- Read the code in the panel. The SMS lands in your inbox with the code extracted and copyable; a voice call is answered by the voicemail and transcribed. Developers get it on a webhook.
- Lock the account. Set Two-Step Verification (cloud password) so the account does not depend on the number alone.
If Telegram refuses the number. It is the range, not the line. Ask for a swap — free within 7 days — and you get a number from a different carrier block, with the remaining period carried over.
Keeping the account
A Telegram account is recovered with its phone number. If you lose the line, you lose the account — unless you set the one thing Telegram offers that does not depend on the number.
- Set a cloud password (Two-Step Verification) right after signup. Logging in from a new device then needs the SMS code and the password; without the password, nobody who later holds the number can take the account.
- Keep the line paid as long as the account matters. A lapsed number goes back to the carrier pool after 3 days of grace and can be reissued.
- Do not run a channel farm on it. Bulk account creation from one range is what gets ranges flagged for everybody.
What a number for Telegram costs

Questions
Does Telegram accept virtual numbers?
Yes, as long as the number is a real mobile allocation rather than a shared or recycled one. Telegram delivers the code by SMS or voice call to our mobile lines routinely; it is the most tolerant of the big messengers.
Can I use a landline for Telegram?
In practice no. Telegram expects a mobile prefix and usually sends nothing at all to a fixed line. Take a mobile line; it costs a few dollars more per month.
Will people see my virtual number on Telegram?
Not if you set Phone number to Nobody in the privacy settings and use a public username. Contacts who already have the number saved will still match it, so use a fresh line for a fresh identity.
What happens if I stop paying for the number?
The account keeps working on devices already logged in. The day you need to log in somewhere new, Telegram sends a code to a number you no longer hold. A cloud password does not replace the code, so keep the line alive for as long as the account matters.
Is a Telegram +888 anonymous number better?
It is anonymous, but it only works for Telegram: no other service can send a code to it, and it takes no calls. A real mobile line from us works everywhere, and a year of it costs less than most +888 numbers.
