What Discord checks
Discord verifies by SMS only, and it refuses ranges it classifies as VoIP or virtual — the message is a plain « invalid phone number » with no explanation. A real mobile allocation passes; shared numbers and cheap ranges with a history are the ones that fail.
- One number, one account. A phone number can be attached to a single Discord account at a time. Attaching it elsewhere removes it from the first.
- When it is asked for. Joining a server with phone verification on, after a moderation flag, after an unusual login, or when your account was created recently and behaves like a bot.
- Not shown anywhere. The number is used for verification and recovery only; other members never see it.
Which line and country to pick
Take a mobile line from a country with a clean reputation on gaming and social platforms — the United Kingdom, Germany or the United States. Discord is the service where a budget range is most likely to be refused; spend the extra few dollars.
