A mobile prefix is the default expectation of consumer apps. Every service in our "works with" section accepts a mobile line; the pages say which country ranges each one refuses least.
The limits, stated plainly
A few banks and government portals run identity checks beyond SMS that no virtual provider can pass. Bulk and A2P messaging is refused and cut. Everything else, a mobile line handles.

Which services need a mobile number rather than a landline?
Most messengers, social networks, dating apps and crypto exchanges: Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal, Discord, Instagram, TikTok, X, Tinder, Binance and Coinbase expect a mobile prefix. Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Airbnb also accept a landline through a voice call.

Mobile ranges cost more to allocate and are in higher demand from platforms and users alike. The difference is about 20% at every tier.
